“FOREVER IS GONE”/// Glide Magazine

STATE HOUSE SESSION

Originally founded as Throwback Thursday Philly in September 2015, State House Sessions was born in 2018 after the former city centric music history and sometime session publication began to exclusively feature performances from both new discoveries and world-renowned artists based in or traveling through Philadelphia.

”The production on this track stood out to me right away. It sounds SO GOOD. Then the vocal enters and has this transcendent power to it. Something about the overall mix puts me in mind of what I loved about finding David Ramirez and Rayland Baxter back in the day. There’s an energy that blends what I love about folk and rock so perfectly well here. The lyrics feel deeply personal, encouraging people to stop performative acts and be true to themselves (and each other). It’s beautifully philosophical and moving.”

TUNE: BRIAN DALE ALLEN STROUSE – “BEFORE IT BURNS”

The newest single from Brian Dale Allen Strouse is the soul-searching bit of folk warmth that this rough year needs. “Before It Burns” has a timeless resonance that sinks in even on first listen. As the lyrics simultaneously reckon with the past and look to the future in the now, the vocal melody glides with ease through in fittingly circuitous and comforting melodic phrasing. The song’s gentle but purposeful progression is guided by the mellowed bounce of the perfectly weighted bassline and furthered sweetly by rising ‘oo’s. Richly saturated in golden hues, “Before It Burns” lingers with a certain charm that invites the listener to join in with the lyrical rumination and live amongst soft edges of Strouse’s voice.

We’ve seen Strouse perform many times as a part of  The Lawsuits  in Philadelphia. But, it is exciting to hear his songwriting shine so brightly in this solo material he’s been working on since the end of The Lawsuits in 2018. Listen to more from Brian Dale Allen Strouse  here.

ROLLIE COMB SINGLE COVER.jpg

Brian Dale Allen Strouse is a musician, songwriter, and producer based in a small idyllic river town on the fringes of Philadelphia. While his true home is in the studio composing and producing, he is no stranger to the stage and life of the touring musician. He spent the greater part of a decade on the road, fronting Philly based band, the lawsuits, A true chameleon of sound, best described as a modernized – yet true to its roots – love child of Fleetwood Mac and Bob Dylan, the group toured the country and made a name for themselves, garnering attention from the likes of Rolling Stone, Paste, American Songwriter, and more. Due to legal issues with their label, in 2018 the The Lawsuits bid adieu, just after the release of the release of their third full-length release. Strouse took the break as a chance to explore the studio and come back to his notebooks and unfinished demos. He wrote, recorded, painted, and completely transformed the emotions and feelings of this time into a cathartic work of art. He has released two singles in 2020, “Rollie Comb” & “Before it Burns”.
